Create user filters for wordpress custom menu based on custom taxonomies

I have a wordpress site which has custom taxonomies added to each post to denote the region, terrain and climate that the information in the post is pertinent to. What I would like to do is add three drop-down lists in each page, which allow the user to select the climate, region and terrain pertinent to them. These options should filter the posts and their parent categories in the custom menu to show only categories and their posts that match the users selections. These selections should also hold state from page to page until the user changes them.

I have spend a long time searching the web for how to do this but cant seem to find much.
Anyone have an idea of how I can do this?
Apologies if I have not articulated this very clearly.
