How do I delete massive amounts of images without using the UI?

I have taken on a website with a very large number of images (30+ gigs) in the wp_content/uploads/year/month folders. These are orphaned images that were used as part of the WooCommerce plugin (old product listings that are no longer needed). It would take ages to delete them all via the wordpress media interface.

I’d like to just delete them out of the folder, but I need to know:

  1. Where else do I need to clean up to ensure there are no references to images that are not present?
  2. What tables in the database or what other places should I clean up to ensure the files are properly deleted without breaking anything?
