How to fix WP API authentication issue in a Hosted / SaaS environment?

I am trying to write some Python code to access WP via WP-API.

I have run into this obstacle clearly documented in the Application Passwords plug-in:
https://github.com/georgestephanis/application-passwords/wiki/Basic-Authorization-Header—-Missing

The fix requires a .htaccess modification.

Unfortunately, I’m using WordPress in a Software As A Service (SaaS) architecture … developing using the pre-built Bitnami image in AWS but planning to deploy to either wordpress.org or another hosting provider.

Modifying a file on the WordPress server is just too much of a learning curve and may not be possible depending on the hosting provider chosen.

So this is really a two-part question:

How to modify .htaccess in the AWS Bitnami install of WordPress?
Is there any workaround so that I don’t have to modify any server-side
files?
