Still getting “Basic Authorization Header Missing” error after updating .htaccess?

enter image description here

I am trying to write some Python code to access WP via WP-API. Details:

  • WP Version is 4.9.9
  • I selected the Application Passwords plug-in for authentication.
  • I’m using the AWS Bitnami install of WordPress.

I have run into this obstacle clearly documented in the Application Passwords plug-in:
https://github.com/georgestephanis/application-passwords/wiki/Basic-Authorization-Header—-Missing

The fix requires a .htaccess modification, which I made in /opt/bitnami/apps/wordpress/htdocs/.htaccess:

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule .* - [E=REMOTE_USER:%{HTTP:Authorization}]
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

# END WordPress

But I’m still seeing the same error:

How to fix?
