Using Images from Cloudinary without them being downloaded to WordPress

I’m completely new to WordPress and so are my colleagues. We’re in the process of developing a new website and are testing WooCommerce and seeing how easy it is to upload our catalog of products to the website.

We’ve managed to get some products onto our website with pictures gathered from Cloudinary. However, our understanding is that when adding the image from Cloudinary it is then downloaded and stored within WordPress. Our current website hosts the images on Cloudinary and pulls them from there, we are wondering if it is possible for WordPress and WooCommerce to work in this way? The image catalogue is around 40gb so downloading it to WordPress is not desirable.

I hope it’s clear what I’m asking here as I imagine this isn’t the clearest question posted on here.

Thanks in advance.
